Ludhiana gambling racket in one of the high-end hotels

The Ludhiana police have raided the prominent city-based hotel Radisson Blue on Wednesday late night and arrested around 30 people from influential backgrounds, red-handed for gambling following a tip-off. The police have also recovered Rs 32 lakh in cash and 40 mobile phones from their possession and it was also found that the hotel manager and staff was also involved in the act.


Police commissioner R N Dhoke confirmed that for the past several days, he had been receiving information of huge gambling at the hotel and also knew that this required a special task force, since the hotel where the renowned gamblers from across the Punjab were converting crores of rupees was under the watchful eye of the highly trained security guards .

Police from three police stations of Ludhiana which was led by additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-3) Surinder Lamba raided the hotel's eighth floor  at 11.30 on Wednesday night where the gambling was taking place. The police have taken walkie-talkie sets from private security guards of the hotel immediately after reaching at the spot.


R N Dhoke in his statement said “Those entering the hotel for gambling also used to give their mobile phone numbers to the security guards at the entrance and bribe them to call them immediately if there is any clue of police raid. They were being provided with every facility in the room including liquor which shows that the racket was running in connivance with the hotel staff and managers and since we also received other complaints about illegal activities running from this hotels, we have booked the owners too."


The accused are realtors and traders from Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Phagwara and other surrounding districts. Joginder Singh who is addressed as Kukku, a businessman and a  resident of Model Town in Ludhiana, who submitted his ID proof to book the hotel room and invited people for gambling.


A case under the gambling act has been registered against the accused and police will also take action against the hotel authority in this context.
