Days before the release of a film inspired by the life of slain gangster Rupinder Gandhi, which is scheduled to hit cinemas on September 8, Gangster Rupinder Gandhi’s brother Manminder Singh alias Mindhi was shot dead outside his residence. This incident took place  in Khanna’s Rasoolra village in the wee hours outside the victims house on Sunday morning i.e, 20th August, 2017.

The assailants came to meet him while he was working in the fields outside his residence in the wee hours at around 7.30 am and one out of the two men pumped three bullets into Manminder from point-blank range and two pistols of .32 bore and .30 bore were used in the crime. He was rushed to Satguru Partap Singh Hospital in Ludhiana but did not survive.

Police also claim that the motive behind the killing is suspected to be old rivalry as Manminder was facing several cases, including for attempt to murder after he shot at a gangster, Lakhi, the man whom he suspected had murdered his brother.

Some eyewitnesses claim "two men shook hands with Manminder and spoke for around two minutes, then suddenly, he was shot by one of them. The assailants tried to flee on Manminder’s bike, but later abandoned it after its engine did not start and later snatched an Innova car from a commuter and fled". The vehicle which was used to evade the crime scene was later recovered  abandoned at a distance near the crime scene.

The lead actor and director Dev Kharoud of the film ‘Rupinder Gandhi 2 – The Robin Hood’ said that the killing of Manminder Singh, brother of slain gangster Rupinder Gandhi was “very unfortunate, but their film will release and should not be linked to the killing before police completes its probe”. He also claimed that “All due permissions were taken from his family before making both films,” and that the films are only “inspired” by his life and not completely based on it.

The film film ‘Rupinder Gandhi 2 – The Robin Hood’ starring Dev Kharoud, was earlier scheduled for a release on August 25, and was postponed for release on the 8th of September.
