ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਦਿਹਾੜਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਖ ਲਖ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਹੋਣ ਜੀ ।


The Prakash Utsav of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji (Anniversary of First Parkash) which is observed on the 22nd of August 2017 and is also a government holiday in the state of Punjab. The Guru Granth Sahib (also called the Adi Granth or Adi Guru Darbar) is more than just a scripture of the Sikhs since the Sikhs treat this Granth (holy book) as their living perpetual Guru. 


Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji completed the Aad Granth in 1604 on 01 September and first parkash was done at Sri Harmandir Sahib. It is considered to be the final, sovereign guru among the lineage of 11 Sikh Gurus in Sikhism and compiled and composed during the period of Sikh gurus from 1469 to 1708. It is a collection of hymns (Shabad) or Baani describing the qualities of God and the necessity for meditation of God’s name and the texts of Guru Granth Sahib Ji is regarded as the teachings of the Ten Gurus and as a source or guide of prayer in Sikhism. Guru Granth Sahib Ji consists of 1430 Angs or pages. 


Guru Granth Sahib Ji holds utmost importance in Sikhism and is always the focal point in any Gurudwara and is placed in the center on a raised platform known as a Takht and devotees sits on the floor and bow before the Guru Granth Sahib Ji as a sign of respect and such is the royalty of this sacred book, a canopy is placed over it and Peacock-feather or chaur sahib is waved above the book.
